David reports on his time as Chairman

As David Taylor stands down as Chairman, he looks back on his time at the helm from 2011 to 2014.

In 2011, the choir began a period of expansion in all areas.

Firstly, our numbers began to increase. At the end of 2010, we fielded 17 members at Westonzoyland but by the end of 2011 we were nudging 30. In 2013, we had 38 members present for a rehearsal and the same number sung at the Christmas Concert at St John’s Glastonbury.

The Annual Dinner expanded to an evening event, which is now attended by around 60 people and features a variety of entertainment. We have also held three skittles evenings as well as Curry Nights.

The choir has sung at a variety of venues. From Sand Bay Holiday Resort in front of 750 people to the grounds of Glastonbury Abbey and from a twelve century church in Rodney Stoke to Bath’s Guildhall. Over three years the choir has performed nearly 40 concerts.

The choir’s finances have always been solid but have been bolstered by donations and legacies. We have been able to purchase new ties and our own set of books of Christmas Carols.

As Tracey Hansford has grown into the position of Musical Director, with the increased numbers she has been able to extend our repertoire with a number of new pieces. In the last 4 years the choir has performed more than 70 different songs.

Following our 90th birthday in 2013, the choir now faces the challenge of maintaining the impetus and going on to bigger and better things.
